Buffalo, New York - Mayor Byron W. Brown, Chair of the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL), today launched the 2020 PAL Holiday Giving Campaign and encouraged members of the Buffalo community to support this unique fundraising drive by making a generous donation. The 2020 PAL Holiday Giving Campaign, an online platform, is a contact-free and convenient way for donors to support thousands of youth in grades K-12 who are living at or below poverty level in the City of Buffalo. It replaces the annual in-person PAL Auction which was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID- 19 global health pandemic, and will enable PAL to continue providing free educational and outdoor fitness programming to children and teens during the challenging months ahead.
“As we continue to deal with the COVID-19 global health pandemic, we must continue to care for our youth,” stated Mayor Brown. “Buffalo PAL serves hundreds of youth in the city of Buffalo. We are counting on the generosity of our residents and businesses to step up and give to the 2020 PAL Holiday Giving Campaign.
Your support will help us continue to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of our youth through vital programming during the winter months ahead. The need is greater than ever.”
Mayor Brown challenged the community to help raise $25,000 by Giving Tuesday 2020, which is Tuesday, December First. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.
PAL Executive Director Nekia Kemp stated, “Our City’s youth depend on Buffalo PAL to provide safe activities outdoors. Over eighty -five percent of the youth we serve are now experiencing excess amounts of screen time fatigue due to remote learning and sadness due to the lack of socialization with their peers. Buffalo
PAL programs provide a healthy and safe break from screen time and provide youth with the opportunity to socialize and make new friends. It is vital that we continue the good workaround keeping our youth physical and mentally healthy during this difficult time.”
Every donor who gives $50.00 or greater will receive an iconic PAL Badge Decal for their Vehicle and a PAL T-Shirt in the mail, accompanied by a thank you letter for their charitable donation. The new CARES Act for Charitable Giving will also apply to any donation made to PAL in the year 2020! Donors who itemize their taxes and make a donation to PAL in the amount of $300 or greater will be eligible for a charitable deduction of 100% of their gross income in the year 2020.
