[ARCHIVED] Mayor Brown’s Summer City Fitness Returns for a Fourth Season at MLK Jr. Park

Buffalo, NY - Throughout the summer months, City of Buffalo residents will have the opportunity to participate in a free outdoor fitness dance program, called ‘Summer City Fitness’, as part of Mayor Byron

W. Brown’s continued commitment to fostering a healthier and stronger community. Today, Mayor Brown and Julie R. Snyder, Vice President of Corporate Relations at BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York (BCBS), announced the launch of the fourth season of ‘Summer City Fitness’ at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. The program runs on Saturday mornings at 10 AM from Saturday, July 6, 2019 until Saturday, August, 31 2019.

“Summer City Fitness at MLK Jr., Park continues to grow in popularity each year,” stated Mayor Brown. “Getting people out and active adds to the vitality of our diverse city, and it’s a great way to promote healthy habits. I thank BlueCross Blue Shield for its continued partnership to this dance fitness initiative that encourages City residents to let our parks be their gym.”

“As the official health plan of the City of Buffalo, BlueCross BlueShield is proud to kick off the fourth season of Summer City Fitness in partnership with Mayor Brown,” said Julie R. Snyder, Vice President, Corporate Relations for BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. “We have proudly watched the program grow each year, and we’re thrilled to welcome even more Buffalo residents to get healthy and active at MLK Jr. Park this summer.”

‘Summer City Fitness’ is sponsored by Mayor Brown and the City of Buffalo and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. It accommodates all levels of fitness. The classes, featuring Lala Woods of La’Movement Fitness, are a mix of low and high impact dance fitness. In addition, free fruits supplied by Urban Fruits and Veggies and water will be provided to participants courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield.

“Healthy living through exercise or dance shouldn’t be something that’s determined by what you can afford,” said Lala Woods of La’Movement Fitness, who spearheads the dance fitness classes. “That’s why I thank

Mayor Brown and BlueCross BlueShield for calling on me to work with all people on all different levels to live a healthier lifestyle.”

All classes are weather permitting. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media through #SummerCityFitness.
