Mayor Brown Announces Listing of Former Police Headquarters at 74 Franklin Street

74 Franklin for Sale

November 16, 2018 (Buffalo, NY)—Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced that the former Buffalo Police Department Headquarters located at 74 Franklin Street would go up for sale on Monday, November 26th. The City is listing the building on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which will help ensure the best exposure for a short turn-around time between listing and sale. Mayor Brown said, “After decades of serving the City as our Police Headquarters, it is time for this building to find a new life with a new owner. As one of the buildings in our Downtown, I am confident that this building will be sold quickly and at a price that reflects the high market demand in the Downtown district where this building is located in.” MLS is a single portal that connects to over 120 real estate websites. Utilizing this system will ensure the widest possible notification to potential buyers of the building’s availability. This will not only speed up the process for the sale of the building, but will also ensure that the sale will result in a fair market value. The sale figure will be based on the location and appraised value. The $3 million sale of the Post Office building on Washington Street and the investment of over $7 million in the nearby Verizon building are both demonstrations of the high interest in and demand for Downtown buildings. Not only does the building’s inherent qualities make it attractive to purchasers but its proximity to the waterfront and Canalside, parking, restaurants, the AMC movie theater, public transportation, and a variety of other venues and services also make it a valuable site. Potential buyers will be able to schedule tours of the building and the listing includes a series of environmental reports to ensure a completely transparent process. Developers will be able to apply for any tax credit or other incentive program that they may qualify for, depending on the potential future use of the building and its fit with the larger vision of the Downtown Building Reuse Plan.
