BUFFALO - Buffalo’s free public Wi-Fi network continues to expand, with newly installed hotspot access points along Jefferson Avenue, between Best Street and East Delavan. Mayor Byron W. Brown and Brian Gelfand, the President of Blue Wireless, were joined by small business owners and residents to announce the completion of the installation of the JEFFREE WI-FI network, a valuable service that is already helping both residents and small business owners stay connected. Mayor Brown made the announcement at the Beverly Gray Business Exchange Center, a one-stop shop training and resource center that encourages the growth and success of Buffalo’s minority, women and service disabled veteran owned businesses.

“Our business districts citywide are the economic engines of our neighborhoods and our JEFFREE WI-FI network ensures that every business and every resident along a significant stretch of Jefferson Avenue will have access to affordable, high speed internet,” said Mayor Brown. “As our inclusive City continues to grow, we must find ways to support the entrepreneurs who are driving technological advances and creating jobs. I thank Blue Wireless for partnering with us on the JEFFREE WI-FI network, as we make another targeted investment to further improve our city’s wireless infrastructure, moving us forward on the path to constant connectivity.”

“Blue Wireless is committed to the community we work in and this is a great investment for the residents and businesses along Jefferson Avenue who now have equal and open access to a unique broadband and internet platform,” said Gelfand. “I commend Mayor Brown for reaching out to us to further expand our original WIFI plan to include a 1.2 mile stretch along Jefferson Avenue. Together we are assisting efforts to close the digital divide in Buffalo and help residents access a utility that is becoming essential for everyday life.”

JEFFREE WI-FI is the latest phase of Buffalo’s public wireless network, which was launched by Mayor Brown along downtown Main Street in 2015. There is no charge to access the network. The Beverly Gray Exchange Center, located at 334 East Utica Street at Jefferson Avenue, is among the organizations and businesses that is already benefiting from the expanded Wi-Fi network.
