Mayor Brown and the University Heights Tool Library Sponsor Community Recycling Event

Dare to Repair Cafe (1)

November 6 – Mayor Byron W. Brown announced today that the City of Buffalo, the University Heights Tool Library along with other community groups will sponsor a Community Dare to Repair Café Event on Saturday, November 18th from 10:00AM – 2:00PM at the The Foundry located at 298 Northampton Street in Buffalo.
The Community Dare to Repair Café Event is designed for residents to repair common household items that may otherwise have been destined for the landfill. Volunteers from the community will be on hand to fix items, such as lamps, vacuums, toys, dolls and small appliances. Volunteer experts will also be available to answer questions about home repairs.
“I encourage city residents to bring their household items to this Community Dare to Repair Café event that is designed to prevent items from ending up in the landfill,” said Mayor Brown. “I am pleased that the City and the University Heights Tool Library are once again teaming up to provide this important opportunity to residents at no cost.”
KnowledgeFire will be on hand to repair bicycles and The Foundry has donated space for this event. KnowledgeFire works with neighborhood children to teach them about bicycle repair and maintenance, as well as general repairs. The mission of The Foundry is to increase neighborhood prosperity by empowering individuals through education and entrepreneurship.
The Dare to Repair Café is the latest waste reduction program of Mayor Brown’s 34 and More Buffalo Recycles Campaign. Two previous Dare to Repair Café events were held in September and October. Over 60 people participated and 466 pounds of material was diverted from the landfill.
