[ARCHIVED] Registration Deadline to Take Buffalo Police Officer Entry Exam is Extended!

BPD-Recruitment-Graphics-2023-16Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown and Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia are still looking for people to join the Buffalo Police Department, and for those interested, there’s still time to register for the next Buffalo Police Officer entry exam. The extended deadline for exam registration is Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The exam will be given on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

The exam is given every four years. Since the start of the Buffalo Police Officer Recruitment Campaign in March, the city has and continues to reach out to interested candidates in communities across the region and state, with a focus on those from communities of color.

Mayor Brown stated, “Anyone who is interested is encouraged to apply. We are looking to attract a high-quality pool of diverse candidates who best reflect the makeup of our city. We recognize that people with different experiences and backgrounds bring different things to the table and make us stronger.”

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 19 and 34 on exam date.
  • Any New York State resident can apply to take the exam, however, all candidates who pass the exam must be a City of Buffalo resident 90 days prior to being canvassed for appointment.
  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalency Diploma

The Buffalo Police Department offers excellent benefits to becoming an officer. Salaries range from $49,588.00 - $82,646. Benefit packages include health, dental and optical coverage, vacation/sick pay, retirement plan and a continued education stipend.
