[ARCHIVED] Sign Up Today for Upcoming Lifeguard Training Programs

Buffalo, NY – Winter is far from over in the City of Buffalo, but pool season is on the mind of Mayor Byron W. Brown and the Police Athletic League of Buffalo as they launch a beefed-up recruitment and training effort to bring on 100 lifeguards to help ensure the opening of ten City of Buffalo pools this summer. The pay rate for a City of Buffalo Lifeguard is $16 per hour.

“It’s all hands-on deck as we put out a call to our young people to become a City of Buffalo Lifeguard,” said Mayor Brown. “Like many cities across the country, Buffalo is experiencing a lifeguard shortage which threatens our ability to open all of our great pools this summer. To ensure that we are able to open on time, we need to start training new lifeguards today. It’s a serious job opportunity, with good pay and promises some serious summer fun.”

The City needs to train 100 youth, between the ages of 16-21 years old, to become Certified Lifeguards. Registration is now underway for the upcoming Lifeguard Certification and Training Program. Upon successful completion, youth will be certified as lifeguards and can apply to work at the City of Buffalo outdoor pools during the Summer of 2022. All applicants must provide a $25.00 deposit to attend the course. This deposit is fully refundable after completion of the course.
