[ARCHIVED] City Of Buffalo Reminds Residents of Snow Removal Guidelines Before Heavy Snow Starts to Fall

WH-SnowRemoval

Buffalo, New York – With the winter season upon us, the City of Buffalo Department of Permit and Inspection Services, Parking Department, and the Department of Public Works, Parks and Streets issued a reminder today to residents and business owners of some snow removal guidelines.

  • Please take caution during any snowstorm if you need to be driving on the roadways.
  • Commercial property owners are responsible for plowing commercial parking lots, driveways, and public sidewalks adjoining their businesses.
  • Residential property owners are responsible for shoveling or plowing public sidewalks adjoining their homes.
  • Shoveling snow into the street is a City Code violation. You must keep the snow from private driveways and sidewalks off of the streets. Please don’t deposit snow from private property onto public streets, sidewalks, or corners.
  • Snowplow contractors are reminded not to plow onto public streets, sidewalks, or corners; this is a public hazard and nuisance, and you could be subject to a summons.
  • All snowplow contractors must be licensed by the City of Buffalo Department of Permit and Inspection Services. To apply, go to www.buffalony.gov/640/License-Applications-Code-Requirements scroll down to Landscape/Snowplow application.
  • Shovel out fire hydrants that are in or around your property.
  • Clear sidewalks of snow for the safety of pedestrians and children walking to school.
  • Reminder: Winter bus route and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. residential street parking regulations are now in effect.
  • The City of Buffalo’s winter parking regulations on bus routes are now in effect every day, from 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., through April 1, 2022.
  • The City has also reactivated 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. parking restrictions on the City’s residential streets with those posted designations.
  • For parking updates, residents can sign up for BuffAlert by texting JOIN PARKINGUPDATES to 30890.
  • Help your neighbors. For many residents, age or medical conditions make it difficult to shovel snow.
