Mayor Byron W. Brown and City of Buffalo Division of Parking Enforcement Commissioner Kevin Helfer, today announced the City’s Winter Parking Regulations on bus routes will go into effect on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 1:30 a.m., and remain in effect until April 1, 2022.

Winter parking regulations on bus routes will be in effect every day from 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., from November 15, 2021 through April 1, 2022.

In addition to the start of winter parking regulations on bus routes on November 15, the City will reactivate posted 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. parking restrictions on the City’s side streets. Those parking rules were suspended on residential streets to accommodate the many Buffalo residents who were working and learning from home

“Although this fall has been unseasonably warm, we all know Buffalo weather can switch to winter conditions overnight.” Mayor Brown said. “Also, as Buffalo’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues and most residents are no longer working from home and students are back in the classroom, my Administration is reinstating 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. parking regulations on residential side streets. I urge residents to follow the posted regulations.”

City of Buffalo Commissioner of Public Works, Parks & Streets Michael J. Finn, P.E., said the City’s Winter Parking Regulations on bus routes and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. side street regulations enable his crews to keep the City’s main corridors, bus routes and residential streets clear of snow and safer for Buffalo residents, workers and visitors.

Winter 2020-21 was relatively mild with only 77 inches of snow, far below the City’s average 95 inches of snowfall, but the upcoming winter could potentially bring much higher snow totals based on historical snowfall cycle data.

Residents who live or work along bus routes are asked to follow posted restrictions, which range from routes where parking is prohibited at all times, to routes with parking on one side of the street only.
