Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today thanked the Toronto Blue Jays for making Buffalo’s Sahlen Field the team’s ‘home away from home’ for a second season.
“The City of Buffalo has been proud to be home base for the Toronto Blue Jays for several series of their 2021 season. It’s been especially exciting to have the team here for a second year with fans in the stands,” Mayor Brown said. “On behalf of the residents of the City of Buffalo, I thank the players, ownership, and all those connected with Toronto Blue Jays baseball for the great game experiences they’ve given Buffalo fans, and we wish them the best of luck as they continue their season back home in Toronto.”
The Blue Jays brought Major League Baseball to Buffalo for the first time in 106 years when the team called Sahlen Field home in 2020 due to Canada’s COVID-related travel restrictions. Although fans were not allowed to attend the games, their presence boosted the morale of local baseball fans and helped the hard-hit hospitality industry, while putting a media spotlight on the City of Buffalo.
“I also thank the Blue Jays organization for its generous donation to the Buffalo Bisons Charitable Foundation to support youth baseball development in the City of Buffalo and the many improvements they’ve made to City-owned Sahlen Field, which will benefit the Bisons for years to come,” Mayor Brown said.
Mayor Brown also gave a shout out to Buffalo’s enthusiastic baseball fans who got behind the Blue Jays to support them as the City’s adopted home team.
