Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced the kick-off of a special Juneteenth edition of the City of Buffalo’s Buy Black Buffalo celebration and pop-up entertainment series.
Multiple Juneteenth-themed Buy Black Buffalo events will take place every day through Saturday, June 19, at a variety of Black-owned businesses and at Juneteenth Festival headquarters.
“We launched the Buy Black Buffalo last December as a shopping movement to support Black-owned businesses, which have been especially hard-hit by the economic challenges of the pandemic. As we begin the celebration of Juneteenth 2021, this is a great opportunity to promote our Black businesses and add an entertainment element,” Mayor Brown said.
The City’s Chief Diversity Officer Shatorah Donovan kicked-off this week’s Buy Black Buffalo activities today at the first of 11 pop-ups which took place at Ms. Eye Candy Boutique, 85 Allen St., with musical entertainment by Buffalo RnB artist Dave Stewy.
“Buy Black Buffalo is on a mission to provide resources to the Black community that will bridge the wealth gap, restore trust between small businesses and large corporations, and encourage everyone to shop locally. These goals aim to create economic freedom for all,” Donovan said. “As we celebrate Juneteenth, this is a perfect time to put the spotlight on Buffalo’s amazing Black business community and remind all our residents to support them.”
The Juneteenth Buy Black Buffalo Pop-ups are sponsored through a partnership between the City, Juneteenth Festival, Inc. and M&T Bank.
