Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today launched the 2021 Let’s Do This! Campaign, a friendly competition involving the City’s block clubs to clean up and beautify their neighborhoods.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we’re seeing a new trend in litter – thousands of used masks and gloves tossed on lawns, streets, and bushes. As the weather starts to get warmer and spring cleanup begins, let’s all do our part to clean up these items and others, like bottles and cans,” Mayor Brown said.
“Buffalo has always strived to be a clean and green community,” said Susan Attridge, Director of Refuse and Recycling. “The goal of this year’s Let’s Do This! Campaign is to call attention to the problem of littering which is harmful both environmentally and visually.”
Through Let’s Do This! block clubs will collect bags of trash and recyclables in their neighborhoods. New for 2021 is an Anti-Litter City Campaign Slogan Contest. Block clubs are invited to show their creativity and commitment to the environment by coming up with a slogan that promotes keeping Buffalo litter-free.
Prizes will also be awarded to participating block clubs at a ceremony later this summer.
To participate, Block Clubs must register by June 11, 2021. The contest runs through August 20th.
