Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today reminded residents of the upcoming deadline to submit comments on the Commission on Police Reform and Social Reconstruction’s recommendations.

“These recommendations are another critical step in my Administration’s ongoing effort to make the criminal justice system more restorative in nature and responsive to the experiences of historically over-policed Black residents and other residents of color,” Mayor Brown said. “In addition to making concrete recommendations the City should undertake to improve the quality of policing, the Commission’s work also contains proposals that directly address the economic and social conditions which are at the root of the public safety and racial justice challenges confronting our City.”

The Commission, which is comprised of community advocates, criminal justice reform experts, representatives from the District Attorney’s office, the Legal Aid Bureau, the NAACP, organized labor, Buffalo’s faith community, as well as members of the Buffalo Common Council and the Buffalo Police Department, developed this draft report based on their work and engagement with a wide variety of public safety and community stakeholders.
