Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today recognized the Park School of Buffalo’s Varsity Boy’s Basketball Team for winning the New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association (NYS CHSAA) Class A championship. The Park School Pioneers defeated the Monsignor Farrell High School Lions at Fordham University on March 9, 2019, securing the title for the second consecutive year.

“I applaud the Park School Pioneers for their victory,” said Mayor Byron W. Brown. “The Varsity Basketball team’s success is helping to put Buffalo on the map. Their hard work shows other students and schools that the sky is the limit when you train hard and stay focused on your goals. I wish them continued success in the future and hope they keep the title in 2020.”

During their 5-year span in the Monsignor Martin League, the Pioneers have had three appearances in the Federation State Champions and won two titles, won three State Championships and won three MMAA Manhattan Cup Championships.

“I am very proud of the team,” said Head Coach Rich Jacob “They work very hard both on the court and in the classroom. The average Grade Point Average of the team is 93%, which shows dedication to their education and their future. On behalf of the entire Park School, I applaud them for bringing home this second consecutive state victory.”

Mayor Brown issued certificates to the following Park School students: Torian Wallace, Zachary Fahey, Josh Bridges, Jai’Den Dunn, Noah Hutchins, Harrison Abramaitys, Desmond Davis, Ebuka Nnagbo, Keonjay Carter, Luke Gozelski and Caleb Hutchins. Mayor Brown also commended Head Coach Jacob and Associate Head Coach Bob Bateson for leading the team to victory.

The Park School of Buffalo engages the whole student in a diverse and creative community that nurtures the joy and responsibility of active learning in all, from our youngest learners to our graduates, who leave with the skills essential to college success and the confidence to serve and lead.
