April 1 - Mayor Byron W. Brown was joined by Fire Commissioner Vincent V. Muscarella and City Human Resources Commissioner Gladys Herndon-Hill today to remind Buffalo residents that the deadline to apply for the 2018 Buffalo Firefighter Entry Exam is only one week away – Monday, April 9, 2018. “This exam is only offered every four years, so it’s extremely important to get the word out to all Buffalo residents who are interested in becoming a firefighter that the application deadline is fast-approaching. It’s next Monday, April 9th for all those who want to apply for the exam, which will be given on May 1st,” Mayor Brown said.
On March 2, 2018, Mayor Brown announced the date of the 2018 Firefighter Exam and launched the City’s “Move Up the Ladder: Start a Career in Buffalo Fire Department” campaign. That public awareness campaign has included: Public Services Announcements on Government Channel 22 and Spectrum Cable channels, hundreds of posters in all City-owned buildings, as well as in Erie County Hall, Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority buildings, Erie Community College City Campus, and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority sites.
Mayor Brown and Fire Commissioner Muscarella also made live appearances on Buffalo TV and radio stations, with additional messaging across the City of Buffalo via leaflets, electronic billboards donated by Lamar Advertising, paid ads in local weekly newspapers, and broad and diverse social media messaging.
Two 15-foot-long banners, promoting the exam, were hung on the sides of Buffalo fire trucks participating in St. Patrick’s Day parades and other venues, including the Pearl Street side of the Augspurger Parking Ramp, for the past two weeks.
