[ARCHIVED] Mayor Brown Encourages City Residents to Tune into "City Senior Connect"

Buffalo, NY--- Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced that, in partnership with the City of Buffalo Division of Senior Services and Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo, “City Senior Connect” will take place this month on Thursday, June 9th on WUFO 1080 AM, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Deputy Mayor Ellen Grant and Division of Senior Services Director Doug Ruffin will host the program, which is designed to keep older adults up to date on important health related information, as well as timely topics that include fitness, books, and much more. Mayor Brown stated, “Our community continues to grieve and heal after one of the most devastating and painful incidents in its history. What started out as a picturesque day in the City of Good neighbors on May 14th ended in an unthinkable tragedy. At approximately 2:30pm, a hate-filled, racist from over one hundred miles away traveled to the Tops Supermarket on our beloved Jefferson Avenue and senselessly shot 13 people, taking the lives of 10 innocent members of our community. It is hard to fathom that so much hatred can exist in an individual. As we continue to recognize June as Gun Violence Awareness Month in New York State, please join us for a brief moment of silence on this month’s ‘City Senior Connect’, in honor of those who lost their lives to gun violence in Buffalo, Uvalde, Texas and elsewhere.” This month’s featured guest is Yvonne McCray, the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency’s Director of Housing. Prior to “City Senior Connect”, Deputy Mayor Grant and Director Ruffin hosted the “Buffalo Senior Connect Call”, an easy to access group telecall program for Older Adults, launched in 2020. At the time, the telecall was designed to keep people up to date on important COVID-19 related information. Participants also had a great deal of fun, talking about health and wellness, fitness, books, favorite recipes and much more. The new “City Senior Connect” airs on WUFO 1080-AM, on the second Thursday of each month, beginning at 10:30 AM.
