Dear Student and Parent,
In a continued effort to help keep our community safe during the COVID-19 emergency, while at the same time continue to help improve our youth’s literacy proficiency skills, I’m pleased to announce that my 2020 Virtual Reading Rules! Kids Summer Reading Challenge is now underway.
Once again, I will partner with the Buffalo Public Schools in an effort to maximize the reading potential of our youth and encourage their developmental success. Since 2006, over 20,000 students have completed my Summer Reading Challenge and discovered that reading can be fun, exciting and rewarding!
While this year’s challenge took some creativity due to the COVID-19 emergency, we developed a great summer reading plan to keep the summer fun, engaging and rewarding for everyone who participates. This year’s virtual program is easy to participate in and it is open to any child in any public, parochial, private or charter school entering grades K-12 in any school district. All of the instructions and necessary information are included in this brochure.
Each child who successfully participates in my virtual summer reading challenge will gain automatic entry into my deluxe raffle featuring great prizes donated by area businesses and cultural organizations, including Children’s Books, Teen Literature, E-Books, Academic Supplies, Educational Prizes, Laptops, Kindles, Bicycles, Fitbits, Gift Cards, and more. We invite all of our Champion Readers to join me for a Reading Rules! Online Graduation & Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Sat, Aug 29, 2020 (10am – Noon) @ www.buffalony.gov.
I encourage you to start my Reading Challenge today and wish you and your family a safe, rewarding and Buffalo strong summer. For more information, please call 851-READ (7323).
