Department Objectives

The City of Buffalo’s Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) is an internal service department that provides technical services and server support for the City of Buffalo. Support provided includes system management, user support, programming, PC installation and repair, training services, management of the city network and infrastructure, protecting city data from outside threats, disaster recovery, backup and storage of city data, developing and maintaining the city’s intranet and internet web sites, and planning for future technology needs. MIS also supports the core business needs of the City through the development, use, and support of new technologies and information systems, utilizing a variety of technology platforms, services, and applications in an effort to provide efficient customer service to city residents and business owners. 

Description of Services

  • Manage Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure
  • Provides email capabilities to all city employees (internal and external)
  • Hosts training and support for Microsoft Office Suite and all city computer systems
  • Manages a fully functional and interactive web site for City of Buffalo
  • Provides Microsoft Share Point Services and fully functional Intranet
  • GIS - Map development, Common Council redistricting, GIS application development and online Parcel viewer
  • Maintain all PCs, printers and communication equipment owned by the City Accounts receivable and accounts payable processing
